Love at First Sight
My grandson Ian was born on March 8, 2004. This is the moment I held him for the first time. I am his Yaya and he is my one and only!

Turtle nest on Avenue 22, IOP
I am a member of the Isle of Palms and Sullivan’s Island Turtle Team. This is the first nest that I found.

I found these turtle tracks early one Saturday morning while walking on the Isle of Palms. My heart was beating so fast when I realized that I was the first person to spy the nest. At that moment I became the “mom” of the nest. I watched and waited until the turtles hatched and made their way to the sea.
My little "baby"
After the nest “boils” there is an inventory of the turtle nest made by the Turtle Team. Typically there are live hatchlings still in the nest in addition to the egg shells and un-hatched eggs. This is the first time I experienced hatchlings running for the ocean. It was a moment I won’t forget and I won’t because of this picture.
I often wonder if he made it. He would be five years old now.
